Find the hidden theme word. Every other word in the puzzle is a clue word that relates to it.
The clues are dealt in a random order and one of them starts active — work on any clue, in any order, and tap one to switch to it. Each clue word has 4–6 letters, and you get 6 tries per clue.
The clues start shuffled, and a marked square shows ? — which letter it holds is part of the puzzle. Solve the clue and it moves into place, numbered. Once every clue is done the marked squares spell the theme word down the column.
You start with 1 theme guess, so you can guess before solving anything. Each clue you solve adds 1 more.
Letters you've already won are locked — a guess only asks you to fill the empty squares.
Run out of tries on a clue? It closes and its letter stays hidden, so you finish with a gap in the theme word. Miss any clue and you get one last chance at the theme once the others are done.
Your result is every guess you make, on clue words and on the theme word. Fewer is better. The best possible is 1 guess: the theme word found right before any clue. A wrong guess still counts, so it's a gamble.
